Grand Theft Auto or "GTA" is an open world/action game. It was made by DMA Design (known currently as Rockstar North) and published by BMG Interactive Entetainment. It was released on PC and PS1 in 1997. A Game Boy Color version came out in 1999.

It can also be officially downloaded: http://www.rockstargames.com/classics/

So this is where it all began folks ;)

I believe GTA is a game where I actually don't have to tell you much about it because it became one of the most famous and popular game series of all time. I mean I don't know of anyone who has never atleast heard of it (even my parents know what it is XD) and Rockstar is currently working on GTA 5 so we soon have another chance to get into the crazy open world of Grand Theft Auto :D

Although probably everyone knows what GTA is today and how it works there are some small differences between the old GTA and the modern ones.

The first difference is that you get to play in 3 cities instead of just one. Yeah GTA introduced Liberty City, Vice City, and San Andreas which set the course for all the following games in the series (excluding GTA2) which is quite awesome.

The second difference is that you could choose one of many characters to play. I think GTA 1 is the only game in the whole series where that was possible. In GTA 2 this feature was already removed.

The third difference is that it was pretty realistic in a sense where one shot could kill you instantly and the only protection you can get is a kevlar vest which will grant you 3 hit points.

Another difference is that your progress gets only saved when you played through a whole chapter of the game (3 cities with 2 chapters each)

To finish a chapter you need 999999 points and how you get them is basically up to you because everything you do gives you score but not that much. So the best and fastest way is to do some missions. After you finish a mission you get a big amount of points and also a score multiplier which makes it all even faster.
The problem is that, unlike the modern GTA, you cannot replay a mission. So if you fail the mission it cannot be repeated unless you restart the whole chapter.

Maybe there are a few other things I cannot remember now but in general you do what you always do in GTA ^^

While I played this game to record the video for the channel I began to see why I liked GTA but only started to love the series when GTA 3 came out. Because the game concept in itself is great but only in a 3D environment you could (or atleast I could) start to really enjoy it. I mean the driving in this game is a pain in the ass and sometimes I felt like I was playing some kind of destruction derby instead of GTA as I bump into cars, pedestrians, obstacles and walls every few seconds. And the zooming camera doesn't make it any better.

Aiming was also one of the problems of GTA 1 because there is no aid like a crosshair or auto aim and you have to hit the enemy pixel perfect. The character control is pretty sensitive and turning around is really fast which makes precise aiming a game of luck.

I have invested many hours into the game and most of the time I was just going on a rampage or driving through the city without any goal because it was great, new and just fun especially back in the days. But now I think I prefer GTA in 3D and I actually welcome the developement of the series, the long way it left behind to be what it is now.Something that I would certainly not say about many other games out there.
