Chapter 18: Adreaux On Call

After a year away, I needed to have a look around Hekseville for myself. From what I had seen so far, it had become a shadow of its former self. And if nothing else, I had to find out what happened to the Ark.

Adreaux seemed a little squirrely, but there was something about him that made it so hard to say no to his requests. The government had changed hands in the year I was gone, and the heavy military prescence was a result of that change. Gone was the pleasant city I had come to call home.
At least people still remembered me after so long...
Adreaux needed my help, so I went down to find the case that he dropped.

After I hauled his case back up for him, Adreaux started asking me to do other things. What kind of boss would send a lone scientist out to do such a dangerous job, anyway? Adreaux was a nice guy, even if he was a little demanding. If his research into the Nevi could bring about a way to stop them, it was my duty to help.

Adreaux forgot to flip the switch on one of his sensors, so he asked me to do it. He should've checked it before sending me out into danger. Then again, I knew something was wrong with that sensor, so I guess some of the fault is mine.
Why didn't those sensors come with remove controls?
Adreaux had a serious problem remembering things, but at least he was willing to admit it.

I couldn't believe the way those sensors were designed. It was hard to see how attracting Nevi was supposed to help the city. But it wasn't my place to question science. Placing the sensors was a lot of work, but at least it was done. He wasn't a bad guy, but he needed lessons on how to better deal with people. At least all that was left was to get him to his airboat on time. After coming that far, I had to see the job through.

I was glad to finally be done helping Adreaux. With all the side trips and clock tower tours, I thought I would never finish. But nothing beats the feeling of a job well done, and I did a lot of good for the city. I guess Adreaux couldn't help being the way he was, especially with some scary boss breathing down his neck all the time.
