In this part, Miss Brett claims the poison is irrelevant, but Ryunosuke isn't fooled. He knows the victim had a tooth extracted, the day of the murder. The wound inside his mouth was large enough for the poison to take effect. Miss Brett responds by destroying the water bottle, so no one will be able to test it for curare poison.
Things look bad for Ryunosuke now that his main piece of evidence is destroyed. That's when he remembers seeing blood on a plate at the crime scene! This contradicts the photo of the crime scene, which has no blood at all. The blood splatter would help prove where the shooter and the victim were located, as the blood went from the victim's chest, in the direction of the shooter.
Inspector Hosonaga helpfully steps up here and says he saved that plate, in case it was needed for the trial. Hooray! Our heroes can examine it in detail!
