# Great Railway Journeys of the World Confessions of a Train Spotter
## Written and presented by Michael Palin

Great Railway Journeys of the World is not only a celebration of the role railways have played in the shaping of modern life. It is also a tribute to the unique way in ‘which long train journeys allow the traveller time for observation, reflection and, sometimes, nostalgia. In this much-acclaimed and magnificently photographed series, distinguished celebrities each give their impressions of the country and people they meet while travelling some of the most fabled routes in the railway world.

Michael Palin fulfills his dream as a childhood train spotter and travels the length of Britain by train — from Euston to the Kyle of Lochalsh — on a fascinating journey of history and rediscovery.

There are diversions to lesser-used lines beyond the Inter-City network; trips on the Flying Scotsman, to York's railway museum, to Edinburgh at Festival time and across the breathtaking Forth Railway Bridge. And 7851/2 railway miles later, as he faces the wildly romantic coastlines of the Isle of Skye, Michael Palin confesses, "I've discovered on this journey, that my love affair with railways never really did end. And I don't suppose it ever will."
