Vast improvement to my previous run of 457k, keeping me in 1st in Pure Mode on GameCenter and OpenFeint by a big margin (as of writing, 28th Feb 2012). Previous run is located here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dzcp38bNvSY

A little switching of strategy in this run. Before, I used to play wholly aggressive, charging head-first into everything with little disregard to stock conservation, but I realised that this strategy was counter-intuitive for surviving anything past Grid 40 due to the increased difficulty and the need to have something in reserve. This time, I played it aggressive only when I knew I had the opportunity through invincibility or a long duration of weaponry, and backed off during other times.

Also, after playing the VIC20 and C64 versions, I discovered a pretty safe way of dealing with the centipedes by not moving so much. This not only has the effect of concentrating your firepower when you're reduced to the peashooter, but it also ensures that the screen is not filled with missile pods left behind by the centipedes, reducing environmental hazards. Using the sides of the screen during diagonally moving formations also helped a lot.

I think there is a potential of about 650,000 to Grid 57, given that I missed quite a lot of swarmers towards the end of the run. Cutting out some needless deaths early on will help in surviving to Grid 60 and beyond.

No sound recorded with the replay originally, again, so I mixed in some videogame music this time. Mostly shooting game tracks selected from games where suicide, death or despair are a main theme, ending with a track from a game where you realise that, at the end of it all, resistance is futile, and that death by relentless horde is all that awaits. ^_-
