Growlanser VI: Precarious World ~ Part 5 (English CC)
TL note:
In this translation, I am using "Yūsha" when Yurry mentions Merklich. 勇者 (Yūsha) can be translated as "Hero" or "Brave One". Personally, I prefer to use "Hero" to translate 英雄 (Eiyū). In my understanding from watching anime, Yūsha and Eiyū are used in different condition, as follows: (Correct me if I am wrong)
- 英雄 (Eiyū): For person who has solved a big problem, like defeating dark lord (Maō). It is also used for other than battle, for example for someone who cured citizens' diseases, or someone who made a revolutionary tool. So that person has succeeded in getting an achievement so that he is called Eiyū.
- 勇者 (Yūsha): For person who has power to beat Maō or any big shot. So far, I only found it is used for battle purpose. For example someone who has divine blade that can beats demon. So that person is not required to have achievements to be called Yūsha, as long as that person has the potential to be useful in big battle.
Putting aside what's right or wrong, my main reason is simply just because I prefer to read it as "Yūsha-sama", rather than full translate it as "Lord Hero" or "The Great Brave One", or partially translate it to "Hero-sama" or "Brave-sama", because Yurry always use "-sama" honorific suffix.
So, in the end, it's just because my personal taste 😁.
