This took a while, enjoy! I made the scene entirely in blender from scratch. I matched the size of the pixels and made 3-d models for each tile like spikes, blocks and lava, as well as using the sprites of the enemies moving as realistically as possible by looking at how they move in-game.

I went a bit overboard with the marginal visual upgrades... I doubt anyone will actually notice the subsurface scattering on the blocks, the motion blur and the specular bump mapping on the cave walls, but I did it!

Sorry it's only 720p; if I made it 1080p it would have probably taken well over a week to render.
