GTA III - Converting Vehicles into AP
Time Stamps:
00:00 - Freshly booting up the game and loading up the Save, then pressing F1 to refresh the Vehicle Slots Cache
00:15 - Driving the Vehicle in which I want to convert (in this case a Blista) to the Blue Marker in Shoreside Vale to begin "The Exchange"
01:50 - As soon as the Mission begins, I enter the Cartel Cruiser and leave the property through the gate while spamming F1, F3, F1, F3 (in this order repeatedly)
02:30 - Successfully getting the Red Dot to appear on the Vehicle I want to convert to AP and then driving it back to a Garage to store it
04:15 - After parking the Blista in the Garage and it closes down on it, I then press F1 to once again refresh the Vehicle Slots Cache
04:35 - Driving to a ONE WAY Street
05:40 - Pressing F3 to attach a Red Dot onto a random Vehicle from traffic
06:05 - Keeping the random Red Dot Vehicle in sight until the Mission fails
09:30 - Proving the AP (All Proof) Properties and showing off the AP Blista
This Method will ONLY WORK on the PC Version because it's the ONLY PLATFORM that has a Replay Feature! This DOES NOT WORK on PS2, Xbox, Mobile, or Definitive Edition!
Before you begin, you absolutely must have a Replay saved with Claude standing ON FOOT near the Cartel Mansion. Without this Setup beforehand, you wouldn't be able to do this! To save a Replay, go stand there as such, then press F1 and F3 a bunch of times, alternating with F2. F2 is actually the key in which SAVES a Replay, however, it wasn't so simple for me as standing there, pressing F1, F3, and F2. In the end, to know if you saved the Replay correctly, you can go away from the area a bit, then press F3. If you see Claude just STANDING THERE, it's a success. If you see him DRIVING and such, you messed up and need to save the Replay again! Once the Replay is saved with F2, you no longer need to touch F2 again!
If you ever mess the process up, reboot the game, the long way. Don't just reload the Save!
To make things easier on yourself, you really should have an EMPTY Garage, with only the Vehicle in question you want to convert! The reason for this is because the AP Conversion only works on a Vehicle in "Slot 1" inside of your Garage. Nobody knows what "Slot 1" is exactly and ANY Vehicle can be saved in "Slot 1." This is why when you have only ONE Vehicle inside of there, it'll be converted into AP no matter what! Using Vehicles from traffic will also be hit or miss!
If you see either Catalina's Escape Helicopter OR your own Cartel Cruiser in the Cutscene, you failed and will have to reboot the game the long way and try again! You'll know you succeeded when you see a Red Dot placed on your Vehicle in which you want to convert into AP.
The HARDEST and MOST LUCK BASED part is the end where I go to a ONE WAY Street and press F3. What happens most of the time is the Red Dot won't get attached to a random Vehicle as you see here and instead, it'll just be sort of hovering over the road. When this happens and the timer expires, the game crashes! So if this happens, don't even waste your time letting the timer expire and know you already failed and need to start all over again. The ONE WAY Street is important because you can see all of the oncoming traffic coming toward you. A different kind of Street could spawn your random Vehicle with a Red Dot driving AWAY FROM YOU, then despawn. You failed again. This is why you see me go to this specific Street, behind the Casino before pressing F3.
I am not sure what would happen, but most likely Claude will be wasted if you remain inside of the random Red Dot Vehicle at the end when the Mission fails. Make sure you're OUT of the Vehicle as I shown. You don't even have to steal the Vehicle, even. The idea is just to FIND IT, then KEEP AN EYE ON IT until the Mission fails.
This AP Conversion will work on ANY Vehicle you can fit inside of a Garage. The largest Vehicle Models will go into Staunton Island and those are the Linerunner, Yankee, Trashmaster, Dodo, and Rhino. Note that even the Unique RC Bandit (Outside Garage Version) can be converted into AP!
While you can convert any Vehicle into AP form, it's still wise to actually obtain the AP Cheetah (or use the EC Cheetah and convert it into AP/EC) and AP Bobcat simply because you PASS those Missions and obtain those Vehicles. This Conversion requires a Mission Failure for each converted Vehicle and it can be repeated!
Fun Fact - Interestingly enough, and likely due to a programming oversight, the Blista is a Vehicle in which you can't even convert into DP form because the Crusher will NOT lift it! You can NEVER have a DP Blista, however, with this Conversion, you can have an AP Blista.
I am recording this Video on the PC Version. Game Version is Version 1.1 of GTA III for PC.
