25 years later and one of the most amazing games of an entire generation still gets a lot of love. Final Fantasy VII. While breathtaking for it's time, this one hasn't aged so well visually, even with the remasters that have been released over the years.

There is, however, a fan made mod created by Satsuki Yatoshi that's absolutely amazing and seeks to give us a near modern experience for a game a quarter century old.

The mod revitalizes the games graphics by rendering every aspect of the game into HD.  Background arts, battlefields, worldmap, magic effects, animations, minigames, menus and videos -- all now re-created with high definition versions. I couldn't imagine how much work was put into this. He retooled almost 700 backgrounds and 14,000 animation files as well as enhancements to the cinematics and mini games. For the first and maybe only time, we actually have a true HD version of this game, and man is it beautiful.

Ok so you want at this I imagine, so let's get to it. The first thing you'll want to do is go right to the mod page and download the two mod files.

Your only other Requirement is a Vanilla version of Final Fantasy 7.  Steam version 1.0.9 to be exact.

Extract the zip file and install via install file. It unpacks over 25gb of data so make sure you have the space on your HDD. This file does all the work for you so don't worry about the need to edit any files to get this mod working.

After installing that, run the 5.6.1 executable to bring the mod current. Then, go ahead and launch the mod.

From here you can load the game modded or unmoded and in it's original state, but obviously we want this modded beauty.
