This is maybe a bit late as the game is already out since couple of years, but I still wanted to try out this No VR playable release. Drifter (the devs) offer a "No VR needed" mode, which is playable, but also a bit "wobbly" to be honest. Still some good fun and it feels a bit like the Mutant Bash in RAGE/RAGE 2. Whish they would do this vor HL-Alyx as well.
