Hacks Showcase 2: Rockman 5 Double Jumper (NES); Hack of Mega Man 5 (NES)
Welcome to Hacks Showcase, where I showcase a hack (doesn't matter which hack it's supposed to be a hack of, just any hack) at my discretion. I limit the showcasing of the hack to just 1 or 2 levels (to give you people an idea of how interesting/good the hack is).
Name: Rockman 5 Double Jumper
Hacker: Rock5easily
Date/Year: 15 November 2015
Platform: NES
Hack Type: Graphics, Sound, Levels, Gameplay, Other
This video shows Hacks Showcase 2: Rockman 5 Double Jumper. This is (obviously) a hack of Rockman 5 for the NES. However, unlike some of the REALLY LAZY hacks out there, this one actually exceeded my expectations. Rockman 5 Double Jumper has you finding "effect" items in hidden places (although I guess they're NOT that well hidden, in most cases). These are: Knockback Guard (it's obvious as what to this does), Recovery Up (boosts life & weapon energy pick-ups), Energy Exchanger (expending an E-can to replenish a weapon’s energy by pressing Select over the selected weapon). There are also the usual items, like Rush Jet, Rush Coil, Super Arrow and Beat hidden inside stages. You can also swap weapons on the fly by pressing Select (just like Rockman X's L and R buttons and it's way of doing it). Down+Select goes in a reverse order and Start+Select brings you to the default buster. Rockman 5 Double Jumper also has you "double jump" (as if you couldn't figure that out from the title). Levels are changed (obviously), sound is changed and graphics are changed (to a reasonable extent). Difficulty is around that of the original Rockman 5 (maybe a tiny bit harder than Rockman 5, but not by much). Weapon behavior has been changed (and for the better, because most of vanilla Rockman 5's weapons were either useless, too situational or just plain bad). Also: bosses's behavior has been changed somewhat (they have new moves); although they're not TOO terribly difficult, either. Weaknesses have been changed, too. The D-can (shown in this video) boosts Rockman's speed (which makes the game even more fun, because you can dodge stuff easier and make jumps easily). Oh, and Rockman 5 Double Jumper also has an exit button which is EXACTLY like Rockman X's Escape Unit button, in that, it lets you exit the conquered Robot Master stage! I have to admit: I love this hack! Oh, and it auto-saves (nice)!
Sorry for the hiatus, people: I had stuff to do. I will post another Hacks Showcase video in the future (MAYBE not the near-future, but sometime in the future).
