Half-Life 2 is the sequel to 1998's Half-Life. It was one of the first games released under the Source engine, the other being Counter-Strike: Source. Upon its release, Half-Life 2 received near unanimous positive reviews and critical acclaim, winning over 50 game of the year awards. This game takes place 20 years after the events of Half-Life on an Earth ruled by the Combine, an alien race who took advantage of the rift caused at Black Mesa to conquer the planet. One main setting for the game, City 17, is where Gordon finds survivors of the Black Mesa incident, including Dr. Isaac Kleiner, Barney Calhoun, Dr. Eli Vance, and his daughter Alyx Vance, and decides to fight for the resistance against the Combine. Half-Life 2 is available on Steam for Windows, Mac, and Linux for $9.99, the original Xbox, and Xbox 360 and PS3 as part of the Orange Box.
