"The work of a man who once had too much time on his hands, and now finds time for nothing but the work of salvation."
- Father Grigori

From 2019 to 2021, I worked on a huge project concerning Half-Life 2.
This vast project is divided into four parts, each of them closely related.

That's why there are four descriptions in one.
It's up to you to read the appropriate description!

14,734 Screenshots:
The 1st project consists of taking as many pictures of the game as possible:
- some artistic: for the small details of certain maps, or specific angles, etc.
- others demonstrative: especially for the characters, their expressions, their positions, their movements, etc.
I tried to show everything that was happening in C17, in its beauty as in its horror, as the feelings provoked by this city can be gloomy as warm.
I captured 14,734 photos of this sublime game. Yes, that's a lot. But there is so much to see at C17.
I imagined it both as a kind of journalistic and artistic process.
And it is obviously a tribute to Valve as this game is so important in our lives as gamers.
In this slideshow, each screenshot is 1.45 seconds long.
All this so as not to make a video too big (less than 6h), in case there are copyright issues for the music.
The video uses music from the different HL & Portal games and Mishaps In The Reactor Chamber.
You can watch this slideshow relaxed, like an ASMR video, or a screen saver.
All these screenshots were taken for my brother Childeric at the start, for his FB page.
He posted a lot of photos on his FB, then quit overnight.
Morale takes a hit, but recovers. This led me to this project, along with the videos.

The Additional Movie - Activités Halflifesques:
The 2nd project is as informative as it is cinematographic.
Like a documentary, in a way.
Indeed, I tried to film a maximum of scenes but from a different point of view.
We are all already very familiar with the Half-Life 2 adventure as Gordon Freeman lives it.
This time, in addition to the already well-known first-person view, there are exterior shots such as security cameras, drones, or from other NPCs, etc...
Besides all that, I tried to show other interesting things:
- cinematic moments with beautiful shots,
- slow motion sequences,
- bugs or glitches,
- normally inaccessible places,
- see how the AI reacts in its environment but in my absence (notarget mode),
- lots of small details like unique objects, unfinished pieces of maps, etc...
I took a few liberties towards the end of the video, just to spice it up.
We already know the end well, and as there is not much to film,
I threw Combine Soldiers in the electric generators, all against the background of music from Mishaps In The Reactor Chamber.
I believe these are the only fights recorded.
Please be nice, watch the video to the end.
You will learn a lot of stuff about Half-Life 2, well I hope so.
In any case, I worked hard on it.
Hope it is worth it.

Favorite Selection:
This 3rd project is a small compilation of my favorite screenshots.
In these 14,734 screenshots, some seemed more successful to me, 377 exactly.
Some photos are funny or just better in my opinion.
A few odd positions, hilarious faces, and well-chosen angles.
That's basically what this selection contains.

The Additional Movie - Activités Halflifesques - Leftovers:
This 4th and last project is, as its name suggests, the assembly of the few leftover videos.
I wouldn't say those clips are messed up, but I didn't like them enough to be in the real edit.
But I gave these rushes a second life, modifying them a bit, let's say I did a new, pretty cool edit.
Here is a non-exhaustive summary of what this video contains:
- Some slow motion Metropolice kills,
- Alyx messing up her script in the Depot,
- I managed to take G-Man's TV (the one with Radio1.wav music) and go with it,
- I tried to escape the card d3_c17_08 with the strange red box (the one that seems to come from HL2 Beta),
- I filmed Barney fighting Zombies (in the Sniper's area)
- I analyzed the weird behavior of Combine Soldiers when there is no enemy,
- I headed for an unknown world, in another universe, as a matter of fact...

With these four projects, I wanted to show my devotion to Valve and the Half-Life community.
Hope you enjoy it all.

Sincerely,

AymericTheNightmare.
