With the door unlocked, We can now leave the Alien Research Labs and now exit to the longest level in Half-Life, Surface Tension is a chaotic mix as you deal with mixed groups of Aliens, Grunts and various dangerous locations.. You now have Apache Helicopters to deal with that are a fucking bitch to avoid, Landmines which are destroyable with Grenades or AR Grenades, Tanks which can murder you in a second, and VTOL Troop Carrier Choppers.

The traps become more difficult, Laser mines in corners, Snipers return from the ending of On a rail and need grenades to die (damn voxel pieces), The Dam part of this level used to piss me off but it's not that hard (until playing on Hard mode).. You face a Icky, An Artillery Gun, A H.E.C.U. Grunt and a Apache, It's really tough to avoid being blasted to pieces, shot up by the Helicopter or bitten to death by the Icky.

Later on you go into a cliffside where you have to by psychic to figure out where to go, and to steer yourself in mid-air to cliffs bellow you, With our tau cannon having limited ammo we get our hands on the Rocket Propelled Grenade Launcher or RPG, This weapon is useful against Apaches but it has a horrific ammo loadout of only 1 in the chamber and 5 to load so I try not to waste shots.

Then, After dealing with our first tank we enter a "bomb", The ordinance storage facility is rigged with explosive barrels, lasermines, and a Nuclear missile and it pretty much kills you outright and re-loads the level if one goes off, After that, and destroying another tank, we enter areas that heavily changed from the Half-Life Alpha and Beta, We also operate some heavy weapons like a Howitzer artillery gun and we get to operate even more big guns later on when we need to access the 2nd part of Surface Tension, That will happen in Part 14.
