Halloween Theme (cover)
Dan here!
So this is just a little something I thought I would throw up on the channel, with Halloween just a few short weeks away. This has popped up briefly in the background on a few past videos, but only several seconds worth.
First things first, the Halloween Theme was written and preformed originally by John Carpenter, for the 1978 film, 'Halloween.' All Copyright is owned by the respective copyright holders, none of whom are myself. I do not claim any sort of ownership, I am just a long-time fan who, once upon a time, was inspired to try to recreate the theme from my favorite horror movie series, with the tools I had at hand. I first saw Halloween at a friend's house when I was in 5th grade, and I had never seen anything like it before. We had a marathon then, of all of the Halloween movies available at the time on VHS, rented from the local video store, our only way of watching at the time. Well, all of the Halloween movies featuring Michael Myers, anyway. We typically skipped the 3rd one, although I can appreciate it far more as an adult for what it tried to be, then I did then as a kid, disappointed that Michael never showed up (other than an Easter egg), and having no idea why.
I always loved how the original theme was so simple, yet it drove SO much of that movie. Without that theme, and it's supporting tracks, it would have been a far less impactful experience. And it was just John, at home, on the instruments he had at hand. Nothing special. Nothing fancy.
I recorded this in 2002, in my parent's basement, on my mom's old Yamaha acoustic guitar (which was over 40 years old at the time), and with my brother's keyboard (I do not recall the model, but it had about 300 different 'instrument' sounds on it). I had been slowly teaching myself guitar that year, and my dad had some simple recording equipment among his own musical/band equipment. I set it up one day, and sat down to see if I could recreate a song I knew, as a way to teach myself how to use the different recording programs and editing software.
This recording is old, no doubt. It's not recorded particularly well, this is also true. Hell, it's not even *played* that well, in fact (give me a break, I was a novice, basically learning every single thing you hear as I was doing it). But it's fun, suits the season, and for what it is, I think it came out pretty decent.
