Here is the gameplay that I recorded of Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary on the Xbox 360. I needed gameplay of it for my upcoming video review of Halo, which will be on my main channel. The video sputters, and the audio cuts out at one point. I do not know why it does this. I have rendered it 3 times, and it happened in the exact same points every single time. I think there is something wrong with the source file that I am using to render this video or something. I am so frustrated that I just don't care anymore.

Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary is an interesting piece. The devs at 343 Industries and Saber Interactive layered the Halo Reach engine on top of the original game and built brand new graphics on top of the old ones. The original game is still underneath the new graphics. You can even switch to the original graphics (though in wide screen and higher resolution) with a simple press of the back button on the 360 controller.

The audio was partially redone. There is a remixed version of the soundtrack that you can pick, if you wish, or you can choose the original Weapon sound effects are a lot better in this version. Weapons sound more powerful and with a stronger sense of impact, and it does effect how much fun they are to fire. Firing weapons is more satisfying in this version of the game. It really helps improve the gunplay. Voice acting and other sound effect are left completely untouched.

Beyond this, everything was left exactly the same. Weapon balance is the same. No level design was altered at all. Animation is exactly the same, so it feels rigid with the new graphics pasted on top of the old animations. The entire thing winds up feeling stuck somewhere in between a remaster and a remake as a direct result. The framerate still dips below 30. Framepacing is worse than the original game. I heard that was fixed on the MCC version, though. I heard that runs at 60 FPS with good frame pacing and animations fixed to play properly at 60 FPS.

This is still my favorite way to play this game, though. The better gun sounds are great, and they make combat more fun. The updated graphics are gorgeous, and the added terminals add depth to the games lore and back story, which is nice. The game, also, has skulls that you can collect for use on replays of the game, if you choose.
