Handheld Fighting Games of 89/94 - Yū Yū Hakusho
Released on July 23, 1993 for the Game Boy, Yū Yū Hakusho is the first video game based on the popular manga and anime series. It features both a story mode and a versus mode. In story mode, players can choose between two different paths: one follows Rando’s storyline in Genkai's tournament, where the player can control either Yusuke or Kuwabara, while the other focuses on the Suzaku story, where players select from four characters—Yusuke, Kuwabara, Hiei, and Kurama.
Players advance through the story by defeating opponents in one-on-one combat, with each fight offering a chance to use basic punches, kicks, and up to three charged special attacks.
In addition to the main story, players can engage in mini-games with Botan, which provide health or special attack items for future fights. The also features a versus mode using any of the four main characters and allows the selection of different stages. Yū Yū Hakusho also offers three difficulty levels to cater to a range of players.
