Welcome to Hardcore Versus. This is basically a race through Super Mario 64 but with a twist - there are certain challenge rules that must be followed in each episode. In this episode, players must use the Mario camera. If at any point during a level the player is using the Lakitu camera, they have to exit the level and restart it.

There is also a 3 Star Rule for each level. Before a player challenges Bowser for the first, second or third time, they must collect at least 3 Stars from each available level.

TOKENS
Throughout the series, each player has 5 Tokens. When a player uses a Token, they can now change the opponent's challenge. The following challenges can be invoked upon a player:
PACIFIST RUN: The player is not allowed to defeat enemies (bosses or required enemies don't count).
BUDDHIST RUN: The player is not allowed to collect coins or defeat enemies (red coins, bosses or required enemies don't count).
MINIMALIST RUN: The player is not allowed to touch anything that is not required to get the Star in each mission. This includes coins, enemies and 1-Up Mushrooms.
NO COINS: The player is not allowed to collect yellow or blue coins.
NO DAMAGE RUN: The player is not allowed to take damage.
MARIO CAMERA: The player presses the R button as soon as the challenge comes into play, so that Mario's head appears in the bottom right corner of the screen. The player must now play with the zoomed in Mario camera.
NO B OR Z: The player is not allowed to use the B or Z buttons.
INVERTED CONTROLS: The player sets their controls to their opposites (i.e. Up is Down, A is B etc).
If a player fails at their challenge, they must quit the level and retry.
