Quantum computers are not only set to revolutionize the way we think about computing, but they also hold the potential to change our understanding of the world. The ability to leverage unique quantum phenomena such as superposition and entanglement allows us to compute in ways that are simply impossible for a classical machine. This new way of computing could enable us to more accurately simulate highly correlated quantum systems, aiding us in material design and fertilizer production. It could also help us encrypt our data more securely, enhance our machine learning algorithms, and improve the way we approach optimization problems.

In this webinar, Anita Ramanan, a Senior Quantum Software Engineer at Microsoft, will take you on a quantum journey, starting with a walk-through of potential applications and continuing with an explanation of what makes quantum computers so special. She’ll introduce the concept of the quantum bit, or qubit—the fundamental unit of quantum information—as well as the topological qubit, the novel implementation in development at Microsoft. She’ll also introduce Azure Quantum, which brings together all of the company’s quantum efforts, including hardware, cryo-control, the open-source Quantum Development Kit, and quantum-inspired optimization, which today can provide speedup using classical hardware and code by emulating certain quantum processes.

Together, you’ll explore:

■ What quantum computers are and how they differ from their classical counterparts
■ What problems quantum computers might solve
■ How to build a quantum computer
■ How to write code for quantum computers, specifically what Grover’s search algorithm is and how to implement it in Q#, the quantum programming language created by Microsoft
