Why hasn't anyone made this yet?
There are so many opportunities for a massive online world in this series, and plenty of fans who would pay all the galleons they owned to be a part of it. Since the whole adventure centered around a school HPO could potentially revolutionize MMOs by actually being a real community of players, rather then just a collection of wayward adventurers who occasionally wave at each other. Perhaps player's performance could actually tally into a 'final grade' for whatever house they belonged to.
This game would be stellar if someone actually put effort into it. There could be Quiddich and classroom mini-games, PVP dueling, hidden locations, ridable Hipogriffs and Thestrals (only visible to players who have seen death!) Houses would be like gigantic clans (although players could form their own circles of friends). Hogsmead could be like a hub with shops and trainers. The Chamber of Secrets could be a high leveled instanced dungeon with a boss battle against the Basilisk for a finale. Players could buy frogs, cats, and rats to keep them company, and owls to carry their messages.
I keep coming up with ideas for this, but then again the Harry Potter series itself always was inspiring.
