Hi! Life has been busy, but here's a humble little upload that nobody was expecting! :3


-- Background --

Hashire Hebereke is a game on the SNES/Super Famicom. It's from Sunsoft's "Hebereke" series of games, all featuring this cute, bizarre cast of characters. Many of them were never released outside of Japan, but some of you might have heard of the first game, a Metroidvania kind of game which was localized as "Ufouria: The Saga".

This particular game is a foot-racing game! In the story mode's bonus stages, the goal is to chase after a little cloud-like fella named "Teketeke" and collect items to use in the next race, while avoiding a big rolling ball that threatens to remove all your items. ...But my goal is to run directly into that big rolling ball. :D

There are eight playable characters, each of whom is flattened in a different way. There's also an item which temporarily transforms all opponents into a l'il blob, Popoon. With a bit of memory manipulation, it's possible to change your character to Popoon permanently! I did this to show that they could be flattened too. (Unfortunately, Teketeke cannot be flattened. I tried.)

The only other flattening hazard that I know of is... a rain of arrows from one of the main stages. It's kinda strange that arrows can flatten these guys, but... hey, it's something. :P I didn't include that in this video, though - for me, the big rolling orb just makes a lot more sense!

One other thing... When multiple racers choose the same character, they'll each have a differently-colored version of that character. I couldn't figure out a way to bring all these colors into the bonus stage, though. Maybe some day I can try to make a compilation of all the alternate-colored characters being flattened, too, if anyone's interested.
