Inspired by pulp, private eye, and horror fiction from notables as Raymond Chandler, Algernon Blackwood, Stefan Grabinski, and H. P. Lovecraft, "the Vanishing of Ethan Carter is a game to be played at night, alone, and with headphones." Released on September 25, 2014 on PC, a PS4 version is slated for release in 2015. The story revolves around a boy named Ethan Carter and strange events occurring in the town of Red Creek Valley dealing with the mystical, macabre, and murder. In the role of supernatural investigator Paul Prospero, it is your task to piece together what has happened and to find (and hopefully save) Ethan Carter, a young boy scared of what will happen to him.
Controls are fairly standard: W, A, S, and D for movement, with mouse movement to look around. Left Ctrl toggles crouch / stand, RMB is zoom in, LMB is interact. Left Shift is run, but there is no jump. Instead, Spacebar is used to open or close a vision. Q and E are used to navigate to previous or later items (like when numbering events in a sequence leading up to a murder).
With no sign of Ethan and clear indications of foul play from the moment you cross the bridge to enter Red Creek Valley, will you find Ethan in time to save him? Will you be asked to stop whatever is happening? Even more importantly, if asked, will you be able to stop it?
