Hey everyone. This is going to be another entry in our Adventure Seeds series. This one is going to be a first for me, we’re doing a horror story! So before we get into this, I want to make some trigger warnings evident. We’re going to be dealing with pyrophobia, body horror, and child murder. If these things bother you, I am sorry, and kindly invite you to watch any of our other videos. I am also looking for feedback on this story as it is a first for me and I doubt it’ll be perfect, or anywhere near that.

The players, by whatever machination of the GM’s storytelling have come to this haunted house to investigate. They could be realtors who have a home they just can’t move, paranormal investigators brought in by rumors of the haunting and are looking to fill out their podcast, the possibilities are endless.
Backstory: The father was a fireman that went insane after being disfigured beyond recognition in a house fire call. The fire that disfigured him was caused by an attic fire. After multiple plastic surgeries he couldn't be restored and lost feeling. He was forced into early retirement and was given a ceremonial gold-plated axe in honor of his service. He felt isolated as his family couldn't even bear to look at him, much less be around him. While listening to “I don’t want to set the world on fire” he finally cracked and brutally slew the mother in the foyer after she concludes coming down the main staircase. His first blow catches her in the back, preventing her from screaming. After her brutal murder he proceeds upstairs to execute his two kids.

Father’s spirit motivation: He was isolated for so long, he doesn’t want the investigators to leave, and will manipulate the house and the immediate property to prevent them from leaving: locking doors and windows, repairing glass (time reversal). Father’s spirit will leave rooms with open flames (in death he’s still not faced his trauma surrounding his burns and disfigurement).

What follows is a series of hauntings that the players may experience:
Haunting: If the spirit of the father is in an area, the temperature surges. Manipulating anything in the study when he’s present causes the temperature to become uncomfortably hot, and though the temperature isn’t anywhere near the ignition point of paper, paper will begin to smolder and ultimately ignite, but when his spirit leaves the books / papers all restore themselves like nothing happened.
Haunting: the portraits of mother, son, daughter bleed but father does not.
Haunting: for brief moments investigators may hear the crackling of the needle on a record
Haunting: If threatened the father spirit disfigures his own portrait in blood, painting over his image to make it appear closer to how he was after the accident and radiates heat.
Haunting: If the axe is found, it can be used by the father’s spirit as a conduit to possess whoever is holding it.

Spooky things about the house:
Haunted record player that when played backwards allows players to see the events that lead to the homicides of the family. Record player is in the study and the record is elsewhere inside the house (GM choice) Playing the record forwards causes the display case for the axe to open and close and the sound of its removal from display hooks too. Father took the retirement axe and used it to kill the mother, then the kids. In the vision the father kills the mother, goes upstairs with the axe, and comes back down the stairs, bloodier but without the axe. The father leaves, and roams but never fits in due to his disfigurement and is on the run and increasingly paranoid due to guilt and shame. Returns to the house, breaks into it (house never sold due to the murders), and ODs on painkillers and alcohol.

Main staircase has portraits of father, mother, daughter, and son. Parents are early 40’s, late 30’s, kids are no more than 10.

The house contains newspaper clippings of the father’s “daring rescue”, “tragic disfigurement of a hero” and “honoring the hero going into retirement” as well as some letters from his psychiatrist detailing his pyrophobia and abuse of painkillers.


Clear the house by lighting the father's portrait on the wall on fire.
