H.E.D.Z. - Let's Play (first two levels only)
0After years of fiddling, finally got the game working smoothly on Win 10, but can't continue the Let's Play as I still have regular crashing, at a rate of approximately once every 2 levels. If anyone has any ideas for getting the game working perfectly on Win 10, please get in touch!
These are the steps I took to get it working:
- Get the game on Abandonware https://www.myabandonware.com/game/h-e-d-z-head-extreme-destruction-zone-dh0
- Use the following tool to let you run the old-type installer on modern Windows https://github.com/otya128/winevdm
- Use DxWnd to hook the application. In particular I used 'Primary Buffer' renderer. Other renderers appeared to have missing text and textures.
You can also theoretically run the game in a virtualisation instance of, say, Win 98 in Virtual Box or something. I didn't want to go down that route due to decreased performance.
