You can use the QR code, but it might be easier to avoid it altogether. Just go the website, and enter that code (case sensitive) they give you on your Vita or PS3. It is a relatively simple process that I saw a few people having problems with. The only thing I can imagine they were doing wrong is entering their password instead of the code on the Vita / PS3 sign in page.

I updated my OLED Playstation Vita, while my other two Slim PS Vitas are currently paperweights.
