Heroes of the Storm-State of the game and review
0Hi folks. Today we've popped over to Heroes of the Storm aka HoTS for some discussion on the game.
HoTS is Blizzard's first foray into the MOBA scene since a mod to Warcraft 3 called DoTA came out. Blizz and Valve even got into it over "DoTA" so Blizz went with creating their own game. Is it good? Is it worth playing? Is it fun? Read on.
HoTS features heroes from the big 3 universes Blizz works with-Starcraft, Warcraft and Diablo. Right now, Warcraft leads the back in hero count with 14. SC comes in at 9 and Diablo brings up the rear with 5. More are on the way with heroes like Chen, Azmodan and Anub. Blizz may even branch out to their other franchises like the 3 Vikings which is something I hope they do.
Aside from the universes, there's 4 hero types. They are assassin (usually burst DPS), warrior, support (a healer-ish type) and specialist (typically base assault). You can buy heroes with in game gold or buy them with real money. Blizz offers hero packs to get a few at once and they have a free hero rotation. This rotation is one of the best things since you get to experiment with heroes and level them before buying them. Warning-assassin type heroes tend to be the ones that will get your blood pressure up. The hit and run tactics combined with stealth can spell the demise of low health heroes. The game has several maps at this time which feature different objectives like gathering 3 tributes, doubloons for a pirate and skulls for a bone golem.
So what's the answer to the questions asked? Does having previous MOBA experience matter? Can you jump into this as a noob? The answer to it all is a yes. Play this game whether or not you typically play MOBAs. It's very accessible and the learning curve is fair. The game is tons of fun and I'd say there is something for just about everybody to enjoy.
