Hide and protect Tabs in Google Sheets
Here's how to hide and protect Tabs in Google Sheets.
i. You can restrict who can see a tab in Google Sheets. To do this, follow these steps:
1. Open the Google Sheets file that you want to restrict access to.
2. Click on the tab that you want to restrict access to.
3. Click on the **More** button (three dots) that appears at the right side of the tab.
4. Select **Share**.
5. In the **Share with people and groups** dialog box, click on the **Change** button.
6. In the **Change access** dialog box, select the **Can view** option.
7. In the **Who has access** section, click on the **Add people** button.
8. In the **Add people** dialog box, enter the email addresses of the people that you want to give access to the tab.
9. Click on the **Send** button.
The tab will now be restricted to the people that you have given access to.
**Note:**
* You can also restrict who can edit a tab in Google Sheets. To do this, follow the steps above, but in step 6, select the **Can edit** option.
* If you want to restrict who can see or edit a tab in Google Sheets, you can also use the **Protect sheets and ranges** feature. To do this, follow these steps:
1. Open the Google Sheets file that you want to protect.
2. Click on the **Data** tab.
3. Click on **Protect sheets and ranges**.
4. In the **Protect sheets and ranges** dialog box, click on the **Sheet** tab.
5. Select the sheet that you want to protect.
6. If you want to allow users to edit certain cells in the protected sheet, uncheck the **Except certain cells** checkbox.
7. Click on the **Set permissions** button.
8. In the **Set permissions** dialog box, select the users or groups that you want to give editing permissions to.
9. Click on the **OK** button.
The selected sheet will now be protected. Only users with editing permissions will be able to edit the sheet.
ii. There are a few reasons why you might not be able to protect a tab in Google Sheets.
* **You are not the owner of the spreadsheet.** Only the owner of a spreadsheet can protect tabs.
* **The spreadsheet is in a shared drive.** You cannot protect tabs in spreadsheets that are stored in shared drives.
* **The spreadsheet is in a template.** You cannot protect tabs in spreadsheets that are stored in templates.
* **The spreadsheet is in a protected folder.** You cannot protect tabs in spreadsheets that are stored in protected folders.
If you are the owner of the spreadsheet and it is not in a shared drive, template, or protected folder, and you are still unable to protect a tab, you can try the following:
1. Make sure that you are using the latest version of Google Sheets.
2. Clear your browser's cache and cookies.
3. Try using a different browser.
4. Contact Google support for help.
iii. You can share only certain tabs in Google Sheets. To do this, follow these steps:
1. Open the Google Sheets file that you want to share.
2. Click on the tab that you want to share.
3. Click on the **More** button (three dots) that appears at the right side of the tab.
4. Select **Share**.
5. In the **Share with people and groups** dialog box, click on the **Change** button.
6. In the **Change access** dialog box, select the **Can view** option.
7. In the **Who has access** section, click on the **Add people** button.
8. In the **Add people** dialog box, enter the email addresses of the people that you want to give access to the tab.
9. Click on the **Send** button.
The tab will now be shared with the people that you have given access to.
**Note:**
* You can also share only certain tabs in Google Sheets by using the **Get shareable link** feature. To do this, follow these steps:
1. Open the Google Sheets file that you want to share.
2. Click on the **File** menu.
3. Select **Get shareable link**.
4. In the **Get shareable link** dialog box, select the tabs that you want to share.
5. Click on the **Get link** button.
6. The link to the shared tabs will be copied to your clipboard.
7. You can then paste the link into an email or other message to share it with the people that you want to give access to the tabs.
* If you want to share a link to a specific range of cells in a tab, you can use the **IMPORTRANGE** function. To do this, follow these steps:
1. In the cell where you want to insert the data, type the following formula:
`=IMPORTRANGE("spreadsheet_key","sheet_name!range")`
2. Replace `spreadsheet_key` with the key of the spreadsheet that contains the data that you want to import.
3. Replace `sheet_name` with the name of the sheet that contains the data that you want to import.
4. Replace `range` with the range of cells that you want to import.
5. Press `Enter`.
The data from the specified range of cells will be imported into the cell where you entered the formula.
