High-speed record during test runs? | DB Systemtechnik & ICE-S | VDE8 high-speed line
770On June 28, 2025, test runs took place on the high-speed line between Halle/Leipzig and the Thuringian state capital of Erfurt. More specifically, these were high-speed record attempts, during which the prototype intermediate car of the Siemens Velaro Novo was successfully tested. The record attempts were also conducted to break the German high-speed record for wheel-on-rail vehicles.
During the first high-speed test run, 386 km/h was reached, and during the second run, the 400 km/h mark was even broken. Unfortunately, at 405.00 km/h, the ICE-S today failed to beat the German record of 406.9 km/h from 1988. The strong headwind, which can also be heard in the recordings, may have been a factor.
