The Sob Story:
It's not that big of a deal, really. After Ede Valley I had kind of figured that I'd sit down and try to get myself published. The problem is that modern publishing sensibilities and my writing style don't really mix all that well, which is something I had learned from college. Modern magazines are mostly published for other writers, and other "academic" writers nowadays are more concerned with a story being meaningful than they are with it being entertaining. At least from what I have seen of it.

So for the last about year and a half I've been trying to focus on writing something "publishable" that would still be true to who I am as a writer, and my focus on making unique, entertaining stories. I was frustrated that despite my efforts, nobody was even showing an interest in my work, and the glacial pace of submitting didn't really help. I DID have one magazine that was interested in my work, and I had been asked to submit a second story for their consideration. But before I was able to do that they ended up taking a hiatus and restructuring the magazine. I'm still waiting for them to reopen submissions so that possibility is not out the window but it's still rather disheartening.

Anyway, increasingly I'd been so focused on creating something "publishable" rather than something that I wanted to write that I realized it was inhibiting me from writing at all. I'd become anxious and self-conscious about my work, something that hadn't really been an issue for me since I'd started uploading my stories, and though my brain was screaming that it really wanted to write something, I just couldn't. I've never really had extended writer's block so it really scared me. I have to largely thank Drag0n because he really helped me realize what the issue actually was (see the above), and I've come to a decision. Even if not a lot of people really read these stories here right now, I'm confident that some day they will, and even if they don't, there are people here right now who love my stories.

I hate the publishing industry. I hate how many agendas and layers and money has to be between me and my readers. So I've decided to fuck getting professionally published (at least for the time being). I want to write, and I want people to be able to read and enjoy my writing, and I already have a platform with which to do it so what the hell am I doing fucking around?

So yeah. I'm back. I have a bigger project that I'm going to start, one that upon completion will enable me to finally continue Ede Valley, which I know is what you all really want ;P. I had to write this story first though, as I've been sitting on it for way too long. I really hope you like it! I had a lot of fun writing it, more fun than I've had in a long time.

I'm glad I can still write, and that the skill hasn't abandoned me like I thought.
