Fix number 1 is fairly obvious, and that’s to update your GPU drivers. A lot of people can neglect this, but it’s important as the latest drivers are specifically tuned to handle cold war. The latest Nvidia driver that supports cold war is 457.30, and the link to it can be found in the description, or you can update through geforce experience. For AMD the latest driver is 20.11.1, and it can be found in the description or updated via the Radeon Software.
Fix number 2, and the fixes that I believe helped me fix my hitching issues, were to edit the .ini file for cold war. This is done by
1. Opening file explorer on your computer and navigating to “Documents”
2. Open the Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War folder
3. Navigate to the next folder where you will find the config.ini
4. Right click it, and click edit, select notepad to edit it with.
5. When notepad opens, press ctrl + f
6. Search for “video_memory” Change the value from what it currently is to something much lower. I personally went to 0.5. You might be okay with 0.6, it depends on your GPU.
7.Save the changes you made, and then close notepad. Once it’s closed, right click the Config.ini file and select properties. In the general tab near the bottom in the section labeled “Attributes” check off the box labeled “read only” this will prevent cold war from reverting your changes in between game resets.
Fix number 3 is to disable full screen optimizations, and to set the game to run as administrator. This can be done by navigating to your folder where call of duty black ops cold war is installed, and finding the .exe titled “Black Ops Cold War Launcher.exe” Your game install folder can be found by opening battle net, clicking the blizzard logo in the top left corner, selecting “settings” and then selecting “game install/update” there you will see where cold war is installed.
Once you find the black ops cold war launcher exe, right click it and select properties. Once there select the “Compatibility tab” and select “Disable Full screen optimizations” as well as selecting “run this program as an administrator”
Fix 4 is an older fix, but it did work for a lot of warzone players and that's to edit the size of the paging file on the drive that the game is installed on. For me, that's my Z drive, but for you it’ll be the drive you installed the game on which you found moments ago.
To do this, we first open the control panel, then select system and security, then system. Once there we select “advanced system settings” then we select, performance, then settings, then advanced. Once there select “change” in the virtual memory section. Make sure automatically manage paging file size for all drives isn’t checked.
Highlight the drive where your game is installed, and select custom size. I set mine to this, but you can do more. As long as the maximum size is at least 2GB more than the initial size.
