Hockey Quest - NHL Blades of Steel 2000
Ugh, what has Konami done with the proud heritage of Blades of Steel? It feels like they couldn't commit to going full-arcade, even though that would have been great, so they left the cheesy scoring in and made everything else with a different direction. It seems that any meaningful shot on net is bound to go in, so instead of toughening up the goalies, they just made it harder to actually put a shot on net. It's also tough to tell from here, but the momentum is especially weird, as the game moves quickly enough but without any weight or consequence. In short, this is bottom-tier for sure, and I'm not looking forward to the '99 version when I get to it on the N64.
Also, the Game Boy Color NHL Blades of Steel game manages to retain a good amount of its ancestor's style, so that one's worth checking out. I'd put a video of it on here myself but at the moment I'm not able to really stream off my Retron 5 which does GameBoy. -- Watch live at https://www.twitch.tv/howtoloseatvideogames19
