Holden Tony's FJ Panel Van - Holden Collector Part 1
37This FJ Holden Panel Van is stunning and a great piece of Australian Motoring History, plus Tony has been collecting Holden Items since 1970's which you will see in the next episode. Lets crack on about this FJ Holden Panel Van first.
Tony or Holden Tony as his friends have named him, has owned this 1955 FJ Holden Panel Van for 15 years now. Its painted in Emerald Green, which is a Rover Paint Colour but has a lot of modern parts including some seats the he is embarrassed to mention. Tony has always wanted a FJ Ute, so he sold his EK Ute and started looking. He came across this FJ Holden Panel Van in the Sunday Times Reader Mart and the seller let Tony know, this is not a stock standard FJ. So he headed up to Whiteman Park area to see the FJ Panel Van and fall in love with it straight away.
The FJ Panel Van has 179 Red Holden Engine with 186 head, 350 Holley, WB Tri Matic gearbox, HR front Disc Brakes with Power Booster, HR drum brakes at the rear and a HT Steering Column. This FJ Holden Panel Van was used in the Australian Army and the Engine block is stamped Army 356, as every ex servicing members knows the Army tracks everything with serial codes. The Rego papers also state its army issued vehicle in its day. The FJ is running a Aussie Desert Coolers for its radiator and it done Tony well for over 15 years now without any issues. He has also add a classic Klaxon Horn in the van for fun as well.
The interior is classic for the age of the vehicle, however, Tony has added a few special touches such as a custom Steering Wheel cover and in the back of the FJ is a Carpet Lined Roof and mattress in the back for comfort.
Tony's good friend Don Loffler who is a Holden Historian and an Author of several books has given him great information through the books and several phone calls. If its Holden, then these two know about it.
Tony has a couple of special piece on the FJ Holden Panel Van, which I have not seen before. The first one is the door handle plates with a Holden Lion stamped standing up. I have only seen the logo of the Holden Lion Sitting before and the second is the lockable fuel cap for the vehicle. These where apparently options back in the day from the dealer as well.
