Plot
The game's first act, "Pharloom," begins with a caged Hornet being taken from Hallownest to Pharloom by a group of veiled insects. After being freed by a glowing winged insect, she uses her silk to escape, causing her cage to collapse in the first section of the game. While traversing this area, she periodically suffers from a mysterious affliction. After falling unconscious, she encounters an ancient insect who informs her that those who kidnapped her serve at the Citadel, Pharloom's sacred place. Hornet decides to find them to find out why they kidnapped her.
