Hollywood movie disasters and Video game $$ MONEY $$
My humble jab at Hollywood discussing possible solutions along with your basic observations.
This is actually a good time for the film industry, like seeing autumn leaves in the Fall. Piles of dead weight get removed allowing for fresh seasons. In this case, the dead weight is the corpse of the action blockbuster. Hollywood must either reinvent itself or turn to artists like David Lynch. Or fully submit to making incestuous remakes of its own comic book movies every few years until becomes an utter joke.
After seeing the sales stats on Super Mario Bros. 3, investors should have read the writing on the wall. At the peak of its financial power and popularity Hollywood studios should have bought the small but wealthy game developers. Instead, the film industry chose to ignore the new money barons with the exception of making intentionally awful INSULTING adaptations of game franchises.
WB should have bought control of Konami after Buster Busts Loose!, giving them access to Parodius, Castlevania, etc. Their current track is going all in on failed DC meets "dark comics" Batman Mortal Kombat. Ironically, this is where traditional animation and Konami characters would be ideal for taking on Disney which rests firmly on the Pixar crutch. DC has officially lost this round to Marvel with Wonder Woman as the lone survivor.
Disney should have bought into CAPCOM after Magical Quest or Square Enix after KH (wait, IDK maybe Disney did?).
Paramount should have bought shares of id Software after the sci fi horror game DOOM shattered sales records.
But, at this point the new money instead is flirting with other new money while ignoring the failing film industry.
Something to ponder... why does Wayne's World work and Ghostbusters ATC doesn't?
