Home Alone [Nes][CompleteTheGame]
This Christmas game makes me angry instead of sharing the Christmas spirit.
This NA exclusive game is made by Bethesda and follows the last... well, second to last part of the movie with the same name.
Young Kevin is left home alone when he overhear the Wet Bandits. So he decides to call the police who will arrive in... 20 minutes... so now you have to avoid Harry and Marv for 20 minutes.
If you do, the game ends. Fail and you will see an 8-bit version of the classic screaming Kevin picture.
...if you got the first revision of the game... they removed it in the second revision for some strange reason...
So Harry and Marv are looking around after you on the map. They are faster than you and if they touch you... Game Over!
Their search pattern is pretty optimal which makes the game a little bit harder than it needs to be. That said, that search pattern is probably better than anything Bethesda have done lately, so I must give them credit for it. So you must try to avoid getting close enough to them or they will "hear" or see you and start running after you.
You got 3 options if you want to win this game.
1: Stay away from their search patterns. Which you will fail no matter how hard you try.
2: The house got some hideouts that you can use. But they can only pass you 4 times before the hideout becomes useless and they will catch you. Some times it feels like they can only walk by 3 times, so you can't be too sure to be safe.
3: Pick up items that you drop. When Harry or Marv walks into your dropped item, they will pass out for a short moment, which gives you time to run away. The length they are passed out depends on what item you use. A can of soup gives the shortest period of time while a chandelier gives the longest. Sadly the chandelier can only be used once while the other items can be used multiple times.
...well, technically the chandelier can be used twice since you can drop it on them from above...
The controls... are not bad... except when you want to go up or down stairs. I've lost so many times just because the game didn't register that I wanted to go up or down, you must almost stand on a pixel perfect place to trigger it in some cases.
I tried to beat the game for a week and only managed to get something between 14 and 18 minutes because of that search pattern. Don't get me wrong, I love a challenge from time to time, but this game is harder than it needs to be.
Oh, and it got a secret credit screen at the start which is unlocked with a code.
Sneaky Bethesda is sneaky.
