Hoops '96 was produced by Data East in 1996. A standard basketball game where you view a scrolling court from the sidelines. The major difference in this game is that your players (on offense or defense) have super powers which allow them to make incredible shots, or incredible blocks. Your power reserve is diminished each time you use a special power. An interesting take on what otherwise would be yet another non-descript basketball game. This is a pretty much a Sequel of Data East Street Hoop, but it's more challenging and have upbeat music. Instead of pressing the shoot button once to make your special dunk or shot, you'll have to shoot press the button twice. Another thing that's interesting is that you can block your opponent's special dunk and shot if your power meter is full as well.
