Horizon Zero Dawn is finally available on PC which means surely it will now work with Vorpx for a Horizon Zero Dawn VR experience right? That's what I'm looking at today! With the brand new Vorpx DX12 update / Vorpx Directx 12 update games like Horizon Zero Dawn & Death Stranding are now playable in VR with Vorpx. BUT how well do they run? With all the Horizon Zero Dawn PC performance issues & Horizon Zero Dawn frame rate drops being reported across the internet this one might be a little rough... only one way to find out though! Horizon Zero Dawn, will it VR?
Horizon Zero Dawn in virtual reality/Horizon Zero Dawn VR is a frustrating experience in it's current state, the game looks breathtaking in 3D & Vorpx does a wonderful job of rendering this game world into a believable 3D space but performance issues really stop Horizon Zero Dawn VR from being something that I could comfortably play or recommend at the time of writing. I tinkered with many of the settings whilst trying to get this one to work, multiple resolutions, all different graphical qualities, frame rate limits & Vorpx settings could not eliminate the constant judder / stutter that Horizon Zero Dawn in VR produced inside my Oculus Rift S headset. Bizarrely the game was running extremely smoothly on my monitor but the quality inside the headset in VR was vastly different.
This Horizon Zero Dawn Vorpx gameplay was captured using the Steam version of Horizon Zero Dawn, to ensure Vorpx hooks to the game & to allow you to play Horizon Zero Dawn in VR you must first change your headset to "STEAM VR" in the Vorpx configuration settings general setup page. If you do not do this the game will simply crash upon start up.
I will check back with Horizon Zero Dawn VR as the months roll on, I'm sure when a patch drops for the Horizon Zero Dawn PC performance issues we should see a huge increase in quality with this title. Also it's worth keeping in mind that the Vorpx DX12 update is still extremely new & over the next few weeks / months it will improve in quality itself. I will revisit Horizon Zero Dawn VR in time, but for now, it's not one I can recommend for a good Vorpx experience.
