Houston K-911 Rescue Saves Dog Before Hurricane Harvey Slammed Houston #StrayDogCity
Operation Houston #StrayDogCity
This stray dog was named America for the Bank of America building that she has lived behind for months on the north east side of Houston and was rescued not a day too soon as Hurricane Harvey flooded Texas.

America had an old ragged bed to lie in, and a village of rescuers bringing her food and water every night. No one knew where she had been prior to making her home behind the bank, but she was there now and wasn’t going anywhere.
Sheena Poole contacted Houston K-911 to see if they might be able to help with vet bills and adoption of America if she could trap her. Sheena had trapped America once recently, however, genius that she is, she escaped from the space in which she was being held. America made her way back to her bank home; feeders continued to feed her in hopes of a better solution being revealed. So we tagged along with Sheena, Anna Barbosa and Michelle for the assessment.
America did not disappoint; she was hunkered down beneath a bush in an effort to stay as cool as possible in 106 heat index weather. With the flurry of people around, America took leave of her space and moved on to the underside of a red pick-up truck in the Home Depot parking lot right next to the bank. This was another of her favorite resting spots.
Anna and Michelle determined that America could not be left in this heartbreaking existence and would be accepted into the Houston K-911 program. Next up, how to get her! While America was used to people being near her space to leave food, she did not trust them enough to interact with them. The situation would require a trap. This was a very busy Saturday afternoon at the bank and in this parking lot, so the safest scenario would be to wait until dusk when it became less busy.
