How a simple Mod to ROG ALLY's back cover changed temps forever!
160Before getting the ROG ALLY, I read numerous reports about micro-SD cards burning out due to overheating and wrong slot placement. It wasn't until I got the device myself that I felt its tendency to get extremely hot, especially during extended gaming sessions of over 30 minutes with AAA titles. The heat was so intense that I could feel the warmth coming from the screen!
so one day I thought that adding a heatsink to the SSD might help even by a bit. However, when I opened the device, I was taken aback by the design of the internal side of the back cover. It seemed overly sealed with tapes and mesh filters with tiny holes, and the outside pattern was hindering airflow. I don't have a 3D printer and wanted to go efficient on costs, so I made a minor modification to the back cover by cutting out the vents area and putting a dust filter mesh with 1mm holes. This ensures protection from dust while enhancing the airflow to aid the fans in cooling the device.
The results are astonishing on all metrics, Also paired with the DIY stand cooler my bro and I handly made, temps dropped significantly in both handheld and docked mode.
While I'm not encouraging this kind of modification, I'm simply sharing my experience and the outcomes achieved
I'm hopeful that third-party companies will develop back covers with improved airflow. For now, I'm quite pleased with my mod!
