How AMD Alveo MA35D Media Accelerator is Revolutionizing Video Streaming
With the AMD Alveo™ MA35D now in production, we are helping to cost-effectively scale interactive streaming at scale. AMD’s Head of Video Strategy, Sean Gardner, highlights some trends that led to the development of the Alveo™ MA35D card, the industry’s first 5nm ASIC-based media accelerator, and how we aim to make it impactful for the streaming industry.
- AMD Alveo™ MA35D media accelerator
- Cost-Effectively Scale - Video collaboration, cloud gaming, and interactive streaming
- Purpose-Built Video Processing Unit - High Density, Ultra-Low Latency Streaming
- AI-Enabled, Intelligent Video Pipeline - for or Predictive Video Quality Optimization
Video streaming is one of the most popular and demanding applications in the data center, requiring high performance, low latency, and high quality for millions of concurrent users. However, traditional CPU-based solutions are struggling to keep up with the increasing demands of video encoding, decoding, and processing, especially for emerging standards such as AV1 and AI-enhanced video.
That’s why AMD has introduced the Alveo MA35D Media Accelerator, a breakthrough solution that leverages ASIC-based video processing units to deliver unprecedented channel density, compression efficiency, and video quality for interactive streaming applications. The Alveo MA35D is powered by an ASIC architecture that is optimized for performance, power, and cost per channel, and can support multiple video standards concurrently, including H.264, H.265, and AV1. The Alveo MA35D also integrates an intelligent video pipeline that combines AI processing and dedicated VQ engines to ensure optimal video quality at lower bit rates, reducing bandwidth costs and improving user experience.
The Alveo MA35D is designed to enable a new class of interactive media applications, such as event streaming, video collaboration, and cloud gaming, that require ultra-low latency and high scalability. The Alveo MA35D comes with a complete software stack, the Advanced Media Acceleration (AMA) SDK, that is open source and supports the commonly used video frameworks FFmpeg and Gstreamer, as well as a C-API for further customization of the video pipeline. The AMA SDK, documentation, and tutorials are available on GitHub.
The Alveo MA35D Media Accelerator is in volume production and available for purchase. Contact your local AMD representative to apply for the program or ask a question via the Product Inquiry form. Join the AMD subscriber list for the latest news on the Alveo MA35D.
