...than Breath of the Wild 1.
Please note; this video was written and recorded before the Tears of the Kingdom name reveal. Which means it was before really any looks we've had into the new game. In fact, the majority of this voice over was recorded back in May, most of my script is dated Dec. 2021 (a full year, wow how time flies) and some of my notes are dated June 2021. So this one's been a long time coming. Even better, it's mostly based on thoughts i had of it back in 2017. But really it's the new game that's brought this all to light. I'm probably the only one who was glad to see the game get delayed. Selfish, i know, but that just meant i could put out a video on it before the topic was made irrelevant.

Hope the add-ins aren't too jarring. Sorry i couldn't get the audio to match completely.

Chapters:
00:00 Introduction
01:55 A Positive Start
05:52 Dungeons - shrines, beasts, bosses
15:13 Special Abilities
19:58 Survival
21:49 Weapons
25:56 Open World
36:16 Replayability
28:43 Closing

You might hate me for this one. Sorry. But i'm only harsh on this game because i care. About this game, and the whole Zelda franchise. I have no reason to buy into the mega-hype-best-game-of-all-time attitude everyone seems to be on about. There's many great things about this game, but that shouldn't bar it from criticism. I enjoyed the experience, but it's by no means the perfect game. Every game has flaws to some extent, some more than others. And those quirks become part of the identity of the game. For better or for worse. And there's never going to be some objectively right direction to go. There's things i didn't enjoy about this game, and i believe it would be disingenuous to not share those thoughts. I always want to put my honest opinion forward, even if it's a less than comfortable approach, or even if i get more dislikes than i get views. But i hope my liking of this game did shine through a bit, not only in my reassuring disclaimers in the voice over, but in the footage itself. As always i put alot of thought into what clips i put where, to match the script practically, but also to show off some of the charm of the game. I pretty much lived inside this world for the second time during the making of this video, and yeah, it is an experience. Just not one that's had me drooling from the mouth for five years on. Even freedom has some limitations, and i think that's fine. Nonetheless, i'm excited to see how BOTW2-- err, Tears of the Kingdom- will stand up to not only this game, but also the series as a whole. Well until then, thanks for sticking around. And i'll see you in the next video.
