Leveraging AI for Enhanced English Learning: Understanding Preferences and Perceptions of University Students in China
Layman Abstract :
In China, English is seen as a key to success and global connection. With the rise of artificial intelligence (AI) in education, this study looked at how Chinese university students feel about using AI tools to learn English. A survey of 269 students showed that most are aware of and actively use AI tools like translation apps and learning platforms such as MoMo Word and ChatGPT, mainly to improve vocabulary and translation skills. About 60% of students said they use AI to boost their English abilities. The study also grouped students based on how and why they use these tools. Overall, students want AI tools that are easy to use, interactive, and suitable for different learning needs. While the study shows a strong link between AI use and learning, it doesn’t prove that AI use directly leads to better grades. More research over time is needed to explore this further.
