The African Locust Bean Tree: Why This Ghanaian Super Tree is Disappearing!

🌳 Discover the Importance of Parkia biglobosa (African Locust Bean Tree) in Ghana! 🌍
In this video, we explore the critical role of the African locust bean tree (Parkia biglobosa) in Northern Ghana—from providing food (like dawadawa spice) and medicine to supporting local economies. But this valuable tree is at risk due to overharvesting and poor conservation efforts!

🔬 What’s Inside This Video?
âś… Key Findings from a New Study: How trunk diameter (DBH) predicts tree height & crown size
âś… Why This Matters: Easy measurement tools for farmers & conservationists
âś… Threats to the Species: Overuse, land degradation, and lack of protection
âś… Sustainable Solutions: How better dendrometry (tree measurement) can help save this species

Allometric Regression Models for Parkia biglobosa in the Guinea Savanna of Ghana

Layman Abstract :
Parkia biglobosa, a valuable tree in Northern Ghana, is widely used by local communities for food, medicine, and other purposes. However, due to high demand and lack of protection, this tree is becoming endangered. To help manage it better, this study looked at the physical measurements (like tree height and crown size) of Parkia biglobosa and created simple models to predict these features. Researchers studied 10 trees in the Tolon district and found that the size of the tree trunk was closely linked to other tree features like height and crown width. The study also found useful relationships that can help in monitoring and managing these trees. Although the study gives important insights, more research with a larger number of trees is needed to make the results more widely applicable.
