How combined ballistic vests work
How combination ballistic/bullet-proof and stab-proof vests work.
These vests feature both a kevlar layer to offer bullet resistance and some stab and slash resistance and a chainmail layer in front of that to offer extra stabbing and slash protection.
When combined together these vests are very good at offering protection from handguns and most bladed weapons to the wearer without being heavy.
Ex-Police vests normally cost around £30+ for vests in good condition with both a front and back kevlar panel included, replacement kevlar panels themselves are generally around £30 each, meaning buying a second hand vest is a very cheap way of getting a carrier unit (vest) and the panels to go inside.
