61How Cosmic Shake Revived Rehydrated Speedrunning! In 2020, THQ Nordic and Purple Lamp Studios released a remake of SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom. SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom – Rehydrated! The original Battle for Bikini Bottom had a lot of popularity due to the fact that it was a great game for speedrunning, so naturally, the remake of that game had a lot of speedrun interest as well. Immediately there was a glitch to complete the game in 2 minutes. But unfortunately, like most modern-game speedrunning communities, there was a fall-off. In 2023, we got a new SpongeBob game! SpongeBob SquarePants: The Cosmic Shake. There was some speedrun hype around this game as well! ...For a brief period of time of course. And then the burnout from that game, uh, indirectly revived Rehydrated! We can now fly. Yes.
