After a couple of years trying the Sonic 3 & Knuckles PC Collection as a kid, I managed to find a way to get out of this Barrel area in Carnival Night Act 2. I knew this collection as my first Sonic games in something like 1997 or 1998.
Some time around 2002 or 2003 I finally managed to find this method after so many Time outs.
This way I haven't seen being features anywhere else so I wanted to share this method I found to get ride of this sort of puzzle.
The way I make it working can be seen with the side d-pad and buttons from left and right areas of the screen.
The solution shown here isn't the simple up/down trick that was shared through the internet, but I found way more intuitive to do it this way:
- I pressed down all the time and jumped onto the barrel to get a momentum where it could reach the lowest position as possible. After a few jumps, I could manage to get the barrel down enough to then jump to right, just like the barrel that is underwater or later on to jump fast enough to the left corner, spin dash and get out of "Barrel of doom" area.
Also worth to mention, I found out there's a similar solution out there which suggests to use Bubble shield to do this trick from me but this way I didn't even use any elemental shield (like lightning or bubble shield) to make it working.
I'm aware of other methods I found last decade thanks to Fans that you could glitch this out with Hyper Sonic or Tails but I didn't even think any of these in like 1997 or 1998.
After a few years trying and getting frustrated, I managed to succeed into this area ... Definetely a fun memory of this game and memorable area indeed.
Aside from all of that, I recorded this little secret beyond this little "gravity elevator" that I just found out few years ago.... Spin dash to it's max capabilities to reach the area !
