I decided to do a Wobbuffet only playthrough of HG.

This is not a Nuzlocke, a whiteout is not a reset, but I will use the other standard nuzlocke rules:

1. Only Wobbuffet is usable in battle (I gave it perfect IVs + neutral nature in pkhex).
2. No item usage in battle. Held items are allowed.
3. Avoid overleveling the next gym leader if possible.
4. No abuse of glitches.

I will try to do minimum battles + avoid grinding.
I am giving myself 999 Max Repels.
The game is randomized to have Wobbuffet as a starter and max speed textboxes.

Proton:
Keeping up Safeguard is very important, because Zubat has Supersonic and Koffing poisons.
Koffing having both physical (Tackle) and special (Smog) moves is a problem as well.
Multiple resets.

Bugsys gym, Wobbuffet lv 16:
Weedles Poison Sting does not deal much damage.
It also likes going for String Shot, which is not ideal, since Counter only has 20 PP.
I decided to go for Struggle, but noticed that the recoil damage is too much and the first trainer has 3 pokemon.
Getting to Struggle was extremely tedious, due to our 70 total PP.

I decided to level up some more before entering the gym, by battling the trainers in Route 33 and Union Cave.
The fisherman with the 5 Magikarp, the bird trainer with the 3 Pidgeys and the hiker with the 3 Geodudes could not be defeated.
(max # of enemy mons for Struggle: 2)
The fisherman with the 2 Poliwag required Struggle, because Bubble deals too little damage.

I gave up in Bugsys gym, couldn't get past the Weedle line trainer.
Struggle recoil is too much, and counter has way too few PP.
Struggle recoil being increased to 25% of users max HP in gen 4 instead of 25% of damage dealt in gen 2 and 3 makes this strategy really not viable.

The only way I see this working is to level up Wobbuffet to a point where Struggle OHKOs all the mons of the trainers with 3 mons.
According to calcs, in order to OHKO a lv. 12 Beedrill with Struggle, Wobbuffet would have to be lv 43 without EVs and lv 33 with 252 Attack EVs.
Since it is going to get only worse at Morty (lv 55 with 252 Atk EVs for Struggle to OHKO lv 23 Haunter), I decided to abandon this run.
