One of the great things about the Switch is just it's overall portability. You can take it with you pretty much wherever you go and enjoy console quality gaming. Connecting to a TV when you get to your final destination, however, can mean dragging along that rather large dock. There is an easier solution, the CNSL Portable Nintendo Switch cable promises to provide a doc-like experience in a 45-in long cable.

For under $30, you get a pretty simple setup that looks to be super easy to use and transport. One end of the cable has a USB-C connector, there is a box in the middle that houses another USB-C female port for power, a USB 3.1 cable to connect USB accessories to, and exiting out of the brain box itself is an HDMI cable. Small, sleek, compact, and fairly effective. One of the things I was a little disappointed in was the lack of an ethernet connection, however, that would have increased the size and the price for sure.

Connecting to my Nintendo Switch was super easy, just plug in the USB-C port, connect the power, and you're ready to go. Speaking of power, no power supply is included. That means you need to use your own separate power supply, and I highly recommend just sticking with the stock Nintendo power supply. Also, as mentioned in the video, no matter what this will not work with the Switch Lite. Thank Nintendo for that one kiddos, they removed that functionality completely.

From the word go, I noticed no difference between this and my $90 OEM Switch dock. The colors were bright and vibrant, audio was good, and there was no increased latency or delay. This was precisely the type of thing that I was looking for in this sort of a cable. For $30, you would expect to have some degradation and quality, but none was here.

One of the things I always like to test with cables like this is how it works with my Samsung devices, specifically those that can utilize Samsung's excellent DEX desktop service. I connected both my Samsung Galaxy Note 10+ and my Tab S7, and both worked wonderfully. It has been a while since I have used decks on my phone, so it took me a little bit to remember how to make my display a mouse pad, but once I found those settings again it was super easy to use. As a side benefit, while it doesn't upscale, the CNSL cable CAN output 4K if the source is providing that resolution. Pretty slick!

Why it RoX:
- Terrific price point
- Additional USB port for wired accessories
- Works with Switch and Samsung decks equipped devices
- Great quality picture and sound
- No additional lag or latency
- PD 3.0 compliant
- Great communication with the manufacturer so far

What could be improved:
- No integrated ethernet solution
- I would prefer having a female HDMI port that way I could use whatever length cable I wanted
- At this time no indication of an anti-bricking warranty
- Not a well-known name in the gaming industry

Should you buy one?
I have tested other similar all-in-one docks in the past, and for the money, this one stands up against all of them very very well. The quality of the picture in the audio were great, it worked with my Samsung devices too, there isn't much that this did not do that I wanted it to. At only 45-in long, it is convenient to take with you. At the same time, that may be short depending on where your television is located in relation to where your Switch will be sitting. For some, you may need an HDMI coupler and an extra length of cable to connect it to your end source. Above and beyond that, this seems like a great little device and I am really impressed what it is doing for only $30
