How I Backup My Photos [Tutorial] Lazy but effective photography backup strategy.
I have been meaning to make this video for a while, and I had a friend recently that almost lost all of their photos and that motivated me to get this completed for you.
I discuss how I automate my backup using some basic hardware and an application called GoodSync. With those tools and a cloud service, I can keep all of my work properly backed up and not have to worry about hard drive failures. I also take some additional time to dive into why I use Capture One and how it makes the backup process a lot easier.
Here are the pieces to the solution. Using these links to help support the channel, and costs you nothing since the price is the same.
GoodSync - This is the key to the entire solution! Please use my referral link since it helps the channel yet costs you nothing. https://www.goodsync.com/?affid=sed19
I have consolidated all of these items into a single list which I will keep updated: https://a.co/1uwXqv2
Synology 920+ NAS
https://amzn.to/3p3GDWL
This is my network-attached storage (NAS) and the biggest container I have for my photography storage. Note that you don't have to start with this on day one, you can work up to it over time.
Hard Drive Holder

There are several of these available, and some even hold more than one drive so you can have a copy already made for you. This is the one I have and it works great.
iDrive - My cloud service
https://www.idrive.com/p=scottdetwe
This is the cloud service I use, and I love the fact they will send you a drive in the mail to seed your files, rather than waiting a year to get what you already own uploaded.
Hard Drives

I use the 6tb Seagate NAS drives. NOTE: Use drive specifically designed for use in a NAS if you plan on using them in your Synology. For the other drives, you can use whatever you happen to have laying around.
