This tutorial was asked for a while, so I made one.

FAQ:
Q: "Can I record from my console and from my mic in the same time?
A: There's some audio driver that lets you to do that, but I prefer to record my commentary separately and put it with the console audio with an editing program (I mostly use Sony Vegas).

Q: "What capture card can I get?"
A: If you want to spend a lot and you want to record from Component outputs, then go with the HD PVR. Keep in mind that it will NOT record older console as the front composite/S Video input is garbage. Get a cheaper capture card designed to record SD systems (be sure it supports any TV standard, expecially if you import games).

Q: "What editing program should I use?"
A: "I prefer to use Sony Vegas, because of the many options, including the batch render option"

Q: "I'm not getting the audio on Vegas"
A: "With the HD PVR, always record in M2TS."

Q: "How do I get rid of the black borders on the video?"
A: "Use the pan and crop option"

Q: "What are the best and fastest settings?"
A: "Sony AVC .mp4
Frame Rate: 29.97 (or 25 if you're recording in 576i/p)
Bitrate: 1500 Kbps to 3000 Kbps for HQ, 4000 Kbps to 5000 Kbps for 720p, 8000 Kbps to 10000 Kbps for 1080p.
